Structural Strand - General Information

TUF-STRAND

The tallest socketing tower in North America gives you consistency.
We invite you to climb to the top with us. Raise your expectations with Tuf-Strand assemblies fabricated in the tallest socketing tower on the continent.

Why is height so important? The higher we can suspend the structural strand in the air, the less strand curvature and the more equalization of the stresses among the wires. You'll get a more consistent product and the most service life from your strand.

Although smaller diameter assemblies don't require fabrication in the 50-foot tower, WireCo WorldGroup employs standard procedures that ensure minimal strand curvature in the smaller assemblies, too.

You can also count on exact alignment with the socket in the strand. We align the sockets precisely with  the strand axis when they are poured, to make sure your Tuf-Strand assemblies meet your toughest specifications.

The industry's only fully enclosed facility offers you stable ambient temperatures.
Our main facility is fully contained under one roof -- prestressing bed, tower, pouring station and respooling station - to provide a consistent ambient temperature. This assures accuracy of length that meets your specific requirements. In other words, fabrication is not subject to undesirable weather or temperature changes that can affect final product performance.

Specialized cleaning techniques and digitally controlled furnaces assure optimum zinc temperature for pouring sockets. That means 100% termination efficiency.

Prestretching assures the length and consistency you need.
To fit your specifications, your structural strand assemblies must have a precise length with exacting tolerances.  That's why we prestretch each strand assembly on a specially designed 350-foot long bed. This assures consistency during prestretching to give you the length stability you need for your application.

We also offer proofloading service for many sizes of installed fittings and terminations. You'll find dated certificates available for each Tuf-Strand assembly to ensure the prestretching and proofloading was performed to meet your precise requirements.

Service and technical support help make your job easier.

Even supporting the solid rocket boosters for the space shuttle. Our construction applications are also many -- towers, roof supports, railroad and suspension bridges, dams, airports, transit systems, harbors and other large structural projects such as the Carquinez Bridge.
